Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is Paint the Town? What is the “Symposium”?
A: For 30 years, the Annapolis Region Community Arts Council (ARCAC) has invited artists to paint and create all over town for a weekend – a plein air celebration of creativity and community culminating in a silent art auction.
This year, we have made the decision to expand this tradition into a biennial rotation with the Paint The Town Symposium in odd years (like this year!) and standard Paint the Town Festival in even years (returning in 2026).
This change will allow ARCAC to continue our mission to support personal and professional artistic endeavours and broaden our community outreach. The Paint The Town Symposium will be a chance for small or rural artists, community leaders and businesses to collaborate and share ideas, spreading appreciation and access to the arts in small communities - while celebrating our vibrant art scene in the Annapolis region.
In 2026, look forward to the return of the Paint The Town Festival.
Q: Who can attend the Paint the Town Symposium?
A: The Symposium is open to all artists, community members, small businesses and more - Everyone is invited! We hope that the Symposium will strengthen community ties between artists and businesses in our region - as well as welcome visitors from outside Annapolis Royal and the Annapolis County area.
Q: Can I still sell my artworks?
A: Alumni artists of the 2023 & 2024 Paint The Town Festivals may register to sell their pieces at a public sale, to be held at the Legion during the Symposium. Due to space limitations, registration is on a first-come, first-served basis, and sellers will be limited to a 30”x30” table space. All sales will be processed by ARTSPLACE volunteers/staff, so you may choose to attend the Symposium. It is free to register for the art sale.
Q: Do I have to participate in the Symposium to buy/sell a studio piece?
A: No, the art sale is separate from the Symposium and is open to the general public.
Q: Can I buy a painting directly from the artist?
A: No, all sales are conducted by ARCAC staff or volunteers at the Legion.
Q: Can I leave a painting I purchased at the gallery or legion?
A: No, all purchased artwork is to be taken as soon as it is sold due to space limitations.
