Casandra Stubbington is a visual artist who works with pastels to create bright psychedelic drawings. Her work explores how we process experience through our perception of color. Raised in rural Nova Scotia, Cassandra was drawn to wildlife and nature from an early age, collecting insects, fish scales, feathers, and other remains left by various wildlife. During her time at NSCAD she became interested in studying how other creatures’ vision has evolved to include certain color receptors. Now she creates work that plays with the color receptors we have in intriguing ways by using bright, saturated and neon colors to realistically render her surroundings. She has received a Bachelor of Fine Art from NSCAD University in 2022 and currently lives and works in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Cassandra has been fortunate to receive support from the Nova Scotia Department of Education, and in 2017 she was honoured with the DeGarthe Award.
