My interest in the natural world around me, which led to my career as a research scientist, also led to landscape, still life and portrait paintings. I am most influenced by the colourful and expressive brushwork of Tom Thomson. I had solo shows in the Visual Voice, Swoon, ADJA, Anna Leonowens, Craig, McCarthy and VANS Corridor Galleries, the St John’s Art Centre and the Rossignol Cultural Centre, and have been in many group shows. My work was chosen for juried shows of the Society of Canadian Artists and the Canadian Institute of Portrait Artists across Canada. In 2005 I graduated from NSCAD with a BFA degree and a major in Fine Art, and also received the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Award for an emerging artist. In 2008 I was awarded a provincial creation grant for a project for Amnesty International, painting portraits of victims of injustice. “Portraits of Injustice” was shown at Pier 21 in 2010 and then at several venues around Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. Portraits by me are in the IWK and Queen Elizabeth II Health Centres, and four landscapes are in the NS Art Bank.
