Alexandra Merkx-Jacques (aka Green Monster Brushstrokes), is a self-taught painter and a Ph.D. trained molecular-microbiologist. Working at the bench and at the easel helps her to see beauty in this world and explore the inner workings of nature. Her mixed cultural background and extensive travel allows her to understand and appreciate the many ways people view everyday life.

Green Monster Brushstrokes started as a way to support her art habit but also helps her break the stereotypes of what both women & scientists can accomplish. She lives by the motto: Scientist by day, Artist by night, Human the whole time.Alexandra Merkx-Jacques (aka Green Monster Brushstrokes), is a self-taught painter and a Ph.D. trained molecular-microbiologist. ARTSPLACE’s vision is to share stimulating work and strengthen artistic life in our region.
Creating environments for art and arts practitioners to thrive is key to our work, as is supporting audiences in their growth, awareness, and excitement about art.
