Upcoming Paint the Town

Artists 2010

Paint the Town History

The first Paint the Town© took place in August 1996, with 25 artists coming to paint on site around the historic town of Annapolis Royal. Annapolis Royal was delighted to welcome; sculptures, carvers, photographers and textile artists to our ever-expanding cornucopia of mediums. The event has grown in recent years to an average of 80 artists and we hope to continue this wonderful event with your support.

Paint the Town weekend 2010 – 21st & 22nd August
The Annapolis Region Community Arts Council (ARCAC) will be holding its 14th annual Paint the Town on August 21 and 22 this year. Please call or email for information on volunteering or participating. Registration forms can be requested by emailing arcac@ns.aliantzinc.ca from April 30th , alternatively, email the office to be added to a mailing list and forms will be sent out on the 31st March - we are limited to 80 artists so we are urging all those interested to complete and return the forms with payment as soon as possible to ensure a place as we operate on a first come, first served basis. The deadline for registration this year will be June 30th.

What is Paint the Town?
Participating artists are invited to create quick studies all over beautiful and historic Annapolis Royal. Artists and craftspeople are encouraged to work in whatever medium suits them and the outdoor event format. To craftspeople especially, do not be put off by our name ‘PAINT the TOWN’ please feel free to create in your medium (we will do our best to accommodate you in both a creative space and in the gallery) or use this as an opportunity to enjoy working in an alternate form. Remember that YOU are the artist and YOU decide what to make and how to do it. We ask that each artist create two to four pieces per day. These works will be sold in a silent auction at the end of each day. Proceeds from the sales will be split 50/50 between the artist and ARCAC.

Two price points will be set on the silent auction works: the ‘OPENING BID’ and the ‘GALLERY PRICE’. The gallery price is essentially the ‘full price’ of the work. If a customer comes in during the day to purchase work they can take the piece home by paying the gallery price. Once the silent auction really gets going (within a couple hours of closing) the gallery prices will be null so that bidding can continue above and beyond the gallery prices of work. It will be up to the artist to set the two price points, although ARCAC gallery volunteers will be available for consultation.

In addition there will be an opportunity for artists to show and sell work brought from home at the PAINT the TOWN gallery. Artists are asked to bring two framed/finished works. The artist will set the price on these works and the artist will retain 80% of the proceeds from these sales. Be aware that if you choose to bring two pieces that we may not have the space to hang both of them, but every effort will be made to display both pieces.

Please ensure that all work brought from your studio is ready to hang with the appropriate hardware.

We will also be offering artists a place for their promotional materials. Artists are encouraged to bring promotional material including: business cards, pamphlets, and if possible an artist’s statement on an 81/2 by 11 sheet of paper (we will compile a PAINT the TOWN artists’ binder). We will make a space in the gallery to display this material and distribute it to customers.

If possible please attach hanging hardware to your ‘to be painted’ canvases so they are ready to be hung by our weekend gallery staff. Please take advantage of the hanging hardware table set up at ARTsPLACE during breakfast each morning.
